A 27-year-old man from the western suburbs of Adelaide was arrested on Saturday night, and charged with rape and owning aggravated child abuse material.

The man has been charged with a series of child exploitation offences. He is also held for producing and distributing child pornography.

He was arrested by Special Crimes Investigation Branch detectives. Police allege that the man filmed himself while raping a child and later circulated the footage.

They also assert that the man possessed pornographic material that portrays children younger than 14-year-olds, says The Advertiser.

The unidentified man was denied bail and will be appearing in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday. Police were unable to confirm if any other arrests are to be made in relation to the issue at hand.

On February 11, another Adelaide man was charged for allegedly assaulting, kidnapping and murdering two young foreign backpackers at the Coorong National Park located at the south of Adelaide.

The suspect was arrested on February 9. According to police the man, 59, did not utter a single word during the hearing.

In 2015, four men and a woman had been arrested by Sex Crimes Squad’s Child Exploitation Unit over their involvement in an online child pornography ring effective in Sydney.

Police discovered photographs of a naked infant related to one of the men, according to reports made by The Huffington Post Australia.

According to Sky News, a few days back, an Australian military expert had divulged that he was distributing child pornography. Dr. Adam Cobb, the military expert, had worked with the federal government and US Special Operations Command. He was arrested in April, 2015.

Police have urged the public to come forward with any information related to people involved in child exploitation material, by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800-333-000 or contacting online. The official website allows people to report crime information anonymously.
