The boys of 5 Seconds of Summer are having the time of their lives. With fame, fortune and the freedom to do what they want, people may think 5SOS is without problems. That’s the total opposite. Michael Clifford confirmed that he had mental health issues.
At a recent stop in Detroit, the 5SOS bass guitarist revealed that he had to see a therapist after suffering from mental health problems.
“I was fixing some problems with my mental health. I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had. Anyway, I’m gonna shut up now and we’re gonna play another song,” Clifford said, notes SugarScape.
A few days later, he clarified that while it is something that happened to him, people shouldn’t overreact.
“I think that was just a time last week where it was taken a little out of context,” Michael said at the band’s Good Morning America guesting.
“It was a thing that happened for me, and it’s all good now and we’re here to play music.”
Following Clifford’s revelation, an outpouring of fan support took over Twitter, with the hashtag #WeLoveYouMichael making the trends. Fans also think that admitting he had issues and needed help was very brave of the 5SOS lad.
One other celebrity would definitely find Michael’s move brave and admirable — Demi Lovato.
The “Cool for the Summer” singer has been very open about her struggles with mental health. the young singer has admitted to having Bipolar Depression, image issues and eating disorders.
In 2010, Demi entered rehab for physical and emotional issues. Since leaving the facility, she has lived a sober life and champions mental health. Earlier this year, she teamed up with five mental health organizations for the campaign “Be Vocal: Speak Up for Mental Health,” notes Fox News.
Should Demi need another celebrity to bring awareness for mental health, she could tap Michael. They could even be BFFs!
