10 Highest Paid Australian Athletes in the World

Australia boasts of a good list of world-renowned athletes and most of them get paid well too.

When we think of such a high profile list, the first ones come to mind are athletes like Adam Scott or Tim Cahill of soccer, reports Business Insider. However, according to BRW, the top 10 Highest Paid Australian sportspeople list includes three basketballers too.

Here’s a list of the Top 10 Highest Paid Australian Athletes:

1. Andrew Bogut, Basketball, $16.2 million.

The 30-year-old, Bogut, has started in all Australian Olympics Basketball teams since 2004 and in 2005 he was selected as the first overall pick in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks. He is the center of the Golden State Warriors in the NBA and helped the team bag a Championship title last season.

2. Adam Scott, Golf, $15.5 million.

The Australian golfer on the PGA circuit, Scott ranked number 1 last year and also became the first Australian to win the US Master Tournament in 2013.

3. Jason Day Golf, $10.65, million.

After winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, 27 year old PGA circuit golfer, Jason, rose to world number four.

4. Marcos Ambrose, Motor Racing, $5.68 million.

After winning Big Prize money for the US Nascar circuit, Ambrose now drives the No. 17 Ford FG X Falcon for DJR Team Penske in the V8 Supercar series.

5. Tim Cahill, Soccer, $5.5 million.

The 35 year old forward represents Shanghai Shenhua in the Chinese Super League. He is also the all-time top scorer for the Australia National Soccer team.

6. Grant Balfour, Baseball, $5.18 million.

Currently a free agent, Balfour has played for the Cincinnati Reds, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Oakland Athletics, after joining the Major League Baseball in 2001.

7. Patrick Mills, Basketball, $4.61 million.

Patrick Sammy “Patty” Mills currently plays for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association. He was selected in NBA in 2009 and won his first NBA championship with the spurs, last year.

8. Shane Watson Cricket $4.5 million.

The 33 year old terrific all rounder for Australia is the highest paid cricketer outside India. Representing the Indian Premier League Franchise, Rajasthan Royals, the ace cricketer has been a valuable asset to the team.

9. Dante Exum, Basketball, $4.34 million.

Considered to be one of the best prospects for the NBA draft, the 19 year old was selected iby Utah Jazz and his currently the shooting guard for his team.

10. Mitchell Johnson, Cricket, $4.1 million.

His pace can wreck any batting order in the world. The left Arm bowler and left handed batsman, won the Allan Border Medal and ICC ‘Cricketer of the Year’, last year.
